From the Soul
Bronze, 30 h x 19 w x 9 d inches (76 h x 48 w x 23 d cm)
From The Soul is a bronze sculpture by Beatriz Gerenstein where she shows a golden-brown, chrysalis-like structure with and a human figure looking outwards from an opening in the nest.
The whole sculpture seems to be floating. It is light and heavy at the same time, like a balloon. The cocoon could resemble the space around us, which places boundaries and limits to the entire existence of the human being. It also suggests sensuality, alludes to motherhood and fertility. Perhaps it represents emptiness, nothingness, but also the whole. The cocoon is beautiful, bright and plenty of light but is also broken and torn, like our life is.
