The Old and the New
Bronze, 24 H x 16 W x 16 D inches ( 61 H x 41 W x 41 D cm)
The Old and the New is a contemporary bronze sculpture by Beatriz Gerenstein where the artist opens a humorous dialog about something that concerns everyone, the unavoidable passage of time. The sculpture shows two badly bent tubes, with wrinkles and stains in the patina. In the back, a beautiful, strong, bright and clean tube appears emphasizing the difference, the Old and the New.
This sculpture was exhibited in the 12 Havana Biennial in 2015. It also was the central artwork of a retrospective exhibition of Beatriz Gerenstein sculptures held at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas (National Cuban Museum of Art) in Havana, Cuba from December 2015 to January 2016. This museum exhibition was called after this sculpture, Lo Viejo y lo Nuevo (The Old and the New)
